Citizenship in the homeland of your Italian ancestors is a dream for many individuals and families. You may have heard that applying for citizenship is a nightmare of delays and restrictions that takes 10 years or more. In many cases, that’s absolutely true.
With VIA, it doesn't have to be.
At VIA, we have only one purpose: to offer qualified Jus Sanguinis ("Right of Blood") Italian citizenship applicants from countries around the world a path to success that can be completed in months, rather than the standard, decade-long ordeal of applying from your home country through the Italian consulate.
How does VIA make this possible for you? Through a life-changing journey. After determining your eligibility, we establish your residency during an exciting stay in Italy. We handle all the details of vitally important official filings and approvals to establish you as a full Italian citizen, with a passport and all the rights that come with it in 6 months or less.
VIA customizes a variety of legal techniques to attain your Italian citizenship based on your situation, eligibility, and needs. Contact us to discuss all possible options. Our most frequently-used method is a special 3 stage approach:
STAGE 1 - In Your Home Country
We work with you to organize, correct, and certify the documents needed to establish your line of ancestors back to Italy. Inconsistencies and errors in surnames, spellings, and dates are common at this stage of the process. VIA’s attorneys are experienced with the administrative and judicial processes of resolving these discrepancies, and our specialists handle all the necessary translation and international
legalization required to certify and process your documents with the proper authorities in Italy.
STAGE 2 - Planning to Travel
VIA provides advice and guidance in planning and booking your travel and your residence in Italy. Meanwhile, our team in Italy finishes all the preparations to receive you for the next exciting stage of your journey to citizenship.
STAGE 3 - Benvenuto in Italia!
VIA ensures that you have the proper guidance and preparation to avoid any unnecessary issues as you come through Customs at the airport. We then take you to the lovely residence where you'll be staying during your visit, and we begin nationality procedures.
The very next day, VIA initiates your formal application for citizenship. Our team will handle all the forms, prepare several series of documents, and deal with all the bureaucracy required for this phase. You simply enjoy your stay.
The Comune (the local municipal government) will send the vigile urbano (municipal police officer) to visit and verify that you are living in the house we’ve arranged, and the Comune will immediately register you as a Resident.
During the following weeks, you enjoy all that Italy has to offer, as VIA works with the Comune and the Foreign Consulate in your home country to confirm your documents and applications, resolving any potential issues with your history and ancestors, in order to obtain the final documents that prove your eligibility and provide them to the Italian government.
Once these documents arrive in the Comune, an Italian birth certificate is issued, and VIA specialists immediately process your request for an Italian identity card and passport.
The speed of responses and processing within the government can extend our process by a few weeks, but the projected time for your stay in Italy and the completion of your citizenship process is less than 3 months. Actual approval can in rare cases can take up to 6 months, but no need to worry: we can discuss contingency plans and options to successfully deal with unusual delays.
Generally speaking, all descendants of Italians have the right to citizenship since it is transmitted by blood (parenthood) across an unlimited number of generations. However, there are some restrictions, particularly in cases of transmission by the maternal line. Our specialists can easily help you determine if you qualify.
Paternal lineage. People whose direct ancestors on the Italian side are all men have the right to Italian citizenship.
Maternal lineage. In cases where there is one or more women on the transmission line, citizenship can be transmitted to children born after January 1, 1948. VIA has additional approaches for dealing with maternal lineage claims, dealing with ancestors born before 1948. Contact us to discuss all possible options.
Marriage. Women and men married to Italians until April 27, 1983 have the right to obtain citizenship automatically in cases where the citizenship of their spouse or husband is recognized. Same-sex married couples will also have the same right.
Italians who have acquired other citizenships by renouncing their Italian citizenship can’t transmit it to their descendants.
Some regions which are currently Italian were not always part of the country, and ancestors from these regions who emigrated before their incorporation into Italy may not qualify as Italians. For example, Trento that was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the year 1919, so only those who left this region after it became part of Italy in 1920 will qualify as Italian.
Via means "road," "connection," and "way." As our name implies, we are your way to achieve your goals and dreams of Italian citizenship.
We are a consultancy focused entirely on your Jus Sanguinis application for Italian citizenship, with a specialized approach that lets you qualify, move to Italy, and attain your new status in 6 months or less.
